Reading together
Three conversations for a small group.
A pilot guide through grace, common prayer, and life with neighbors. Use it at your own pace. It has not yet been tested by a parish group.
Open the three-session guide
Allow about 45 minutes per meeting. Read beforehand or choose one passage together. Anyone may pass, disagree, decline prayer or a practice, or leave. No personal disclosure is needed. Do not promise absolute confidentiality or use the group to investigate allegations of harm.
1. Receiving before achieving
Read Grace Is Not Advice.
Which words in a familiar service announce a gift, and which assign a task? Where does the essay's distinction fail to describe what you hear?
If willing, notice one declaration of mercy at a service you already choose to attend. Do not turn it into an improvement target or require a later report.
2. Praying words we receive
Read Why Anglicanism Begins in Prayer.
Choose one sentence of common prayer. Do received words support truthful speech, or ask you to say something you cannot currently affirm?
If willing, listen to part of a parish prayer service in person or through an accessible recording. Listening need not involve reciting, standing, or continuing.
3. Belonging without coercion
Read Sanctification Is Not a Private Achievement.
What observable arrangement would allow someone to tell a congregation an unwelcome truth without retaliation? Which parts of the essay remain unconvincing?
If willing, read one public parish safeguarding or accessibility page and ask a procedural question through its stated channel. Do not name another person's experience or seek a disclosure.
Close by stating one unresolved disagreement accurately, without requiring its speaker to reconcile it. Feedback on the guide is welcome through correspondence; publication requires separate permission.
